The former chief mufti of Syria, Ahmed Hassoun, who served during the regime of ousted leader Bashar al-Assad, appeared in Aleppo for the first time in months. Following this development, an angry crowd broke down the door of the mufti's house, calling him the "Mufti of the Barrels."
Ahmed Bedreddin Hassun, who served as the Grand Mufti during the regime of Syria's ousted leader Bashar al-Assad, has emerged in Aleppo after a long absence. However, Hassun faced public backlash and was forced to seek refuge in his home amid protests.
THEY GATHERED IN FRONT OF HIS HOUSE
On Monday evening, a crowd gathered in front of Hassun's house, demanding the former Grand Mufti's arrest and trial. The demonstrators expressed that they nicknamed him "The Mufti of the Barrels," referring to his statements supporting the regime during the war.
HE CLASHED WITH THE PROTESTERS
In videos circulating on social media, Hassun can be seen arguing with the protesters, and one person is heard calling him "The Mufti of the Barrels." The angry crowd was later seen breaking down the door of his house to enter.
"I WAS ARRESTED THREE TIMES" DEFENSE
Despite the protests, Ahmed Hassun defended himself, claiming that he was "arrested three times" during Bashar al-Assad's regime. However, this statement was not enough to calm the demonstrators.
