After the DEM Party-affiliated Siirt Mayor Sofya Alağaş was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison for "membership in an armed terrorist organization," the Ministry of Interior appointed Governor Kemal Kızılkaya as the trustee. Siirt Municipality became the 10th municipality to be appointed a trustee following the March 31 elections, while the DEM Party expressed its reaction to the events in a written statement.
