THE OPERATOR LOST HIS LIFE IN THE CONFLICT
The incident took place on August 12, 2020, on Gebi Street and Bahadır Street in the İlyasköy neighborhood of the İlkadım district. In an armed conflict between two groups, coffee shop operator Nadir Onat (41), a father of two, and Gürkan Ç. were injured. Heavily injured, Onat died in the hospital he was taken to.
THEY RECEIVED 15 YEARS, THE COURT FOUND THE SENTENCE TOO LIGHT
In the trial held on January 4, 2022, at the Samsun 4th High Criminal Court regarding the incident, Gürkan Ç. and Hazal B. were sentenced to 15 years in prison, while some defendants, including Altan E., were acquitted. However, the 1st Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation found the sentences given to Gürkan Ç. and Hazal B. too light and overturned the acquittals, ruling for the defendants to be retried.
ALL SUSPECTS RECEIVED SENTENCES IN THE RETRIED CASE
In the retrial held on March 4, 2025, the detained defendants Gürkan Ç. and Hazal B. were sentenced to life imprisonment, while Altan E. and Mehmet D.B., who were tried without detention, received 10 years each, and a defendant who was under 18 at the time of the incident received 6 years and 8 months in prison.
HE SERVED 10 YEARS, SAID "SEE YOU NEXT YEAR" WHILE GOING TO COURT
After the Court of Cassation's decision to overturn, a warrant was issued for Altan E., who was retried and sentenced to 10 years in prison last week. Altan A., who was caught by the teams of the Homicide Bureau of the Samsun Police Department, was transferred to the Samsun Courthouse today after his procedures at the police station. While being taken to the courthouse, the convict told a press member who was filming him, "See you next year." After completing his judicial procedures, Altan E. was arrested and sent to Samsun Type T Closed Prison.
