The number of electric cars in traffic in Turkey increased by approximately 120% compared to the same month last year, reaching 218,238 by the end of March. In March, the number of registered electric cars surpassed that of diesel and LPG-fueled vehicles.

120% INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES IN A YEAR
According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the number of electric vehicles, which have lower carbon emissions compared to other fuel types, has significantly increased over the past 10 years. The number of registered electric cars, which was only 565 in 2015, exceeded 1000 for the first time in 2019, and by 2025, this number surpassed 200,000. As of the end of 2024, the number of registered electric cars reached 183,776, and by March 2025, it had reached 218,238. The number of these cars has increased by approximately 120% compared to March of last year.
NUMBER OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES SURPASSES DIESEL AND LPG
In March, when examining the distribution of registered cars by fuel type, it was observed that 48.1% of them were gasoline-powered. This was followed by hybrid fuel vehicles at 30.5%. The proportion of electric vehicles among the cars registered in March was recorded at 12.9%. By the end of last month, electric vehicles surpassed diesel (7.6%) and LPG (0.9%) fuel cars in terms of registrations. In March, 12,221 electric, 7,192 diesel, and 893 LPG-powered cars were registered.
