The nurse of the 'Newborn Gang' spoke: When things got out of hand, I constantly argued.

In the newborn gang scandal, nurse Hakan Doğukan Taşçı, who is alleged to have "written epicrisis reports instead of a doctor and engaged in illegal drug sales," stated that he reported ambulance driver Gıyasettin Mert Özdemir to CİMER himself. Taşçı said, "I was doing my best for the children's health. After things got completely out of hand and the children's health was put at risk, I had constant arguments with this person."

By collaborating with the personnel working at the 112 Emergency Call Center, it is alleged that the gang, led by Dr. Fırat Sarı, transferred emergency infant patients to the neonatal units of private hospitals they had previously agreed upon, resulting in their deaths. The indictment states that Dr. İlker Gönen and ambulance driver Gıyasettin Mert Özdemir managed the transfers. The indictment also mentioned that the main purpose of the criminal organization was to manipulate the 112 transfer system to receive maximum payments from SGK for the neonatal intensive care units they controlled.

HERE ARE THE REQUESTED PENALTIES

It is requested that defendants Fırat Sarı and İlker Gönen be sentenced to a total of 177 years and 6 months to 582 years and 9 months in prison for 10 counts of "manslaughter by negligence," "qualified fraud," "establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime," and 11 counts of "forgery in official documents." For Gıyasettin Mert Özdemir, it is requested that he be sentenced to 180 years to 589 years and 9 months in prison for "manslaughter by negligence," "unlawfully obtaining personal data," "fraud to the detriment of public institutions and organizations," "establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime," and "forgery in official documents."

"MY REASON FOR COMPLAINING..."

Hakan Doğukan Taşçı, a nurse whose statement was included in the indictment, alleged that he wrote epicrisis reports instead of a doctor and engaged in illegal drug sales. He explained that he reported ambulance driver Gıyasettin Mert Özdemir to CİMER. "My reason for complaining is because he was involved in baby trafficking," he said.

"I ARGUED AFTER THINGS GOT OUT OF HAND"

27-year-old Hakan Doğukan Taşçı appears to be one of the owners of a company operating in the health sector. A part of Taşçı's statements included in the indictment is as follows: "The person who got me involved in illegal activities is Dr. Fırat Sarı. He was supposed to have a doctor in the hospital but instead left me there. I was doing my best for the children's health. After things got completely out of hand and the children's health was endangered, I constantly argued with this person."

"THEY DISREGARD THE LIVES OF BABIES"

Gıyasettin Mert Özdemir works as an ambulance driver at 112. I reported this person to CİMER. My reason for complaining is because he was involved in baby trafficking. He works with many private hospitals. Generally, by making agreements with the chief physicians and hospital directors, he arranges for the admission of newborn babies from outside to the hospitals and profits from this. In these transactions, he transfers babies to hospitals without considering whether the hospital is suitable for newborns, endangering their lives just to make money. For organizing transfers outside of Istanbul, he uses a person named Serdar Yüksel.
