In his statements at the UN General Assembly, U.S. President Donald Trump targeted Hamas and the countries that recognize Palestine as a state without uttering a word about Israel, which is killing innocent civilians in Gaza. Meanwhile, the Israeli representative in the hall was notably seen nodding in approval of Trump's remarks and applauding.
US President Donald Trump, in his speech at the 80th UN General Assembly, harshly criticized Hamas and the countries that recognize Palestine as a state without saying a word about Israel, which is killing innocent civilians in Gaza.
"RECOGNIZING THE STATE OF PALESTINE..."
Trump, who said, "I have tried to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, but Hamas rejects peace proposals," declared, "Recognizing the state of Palestine right now means rewarding the oppression like on October 7. Those who want peace must unite: they must demand the immediate release of hostages," and announced that he would not recognize Palestine.
FIRST NODDED, THEN APPLAUDED
Trump's remarks blaming Hamas for the massacres in Gaza were notably approved by Israel's UN Ambassador Danny Danon, who nodded and then applauded.
PALESTINE WIND AT THE UN
Meanwhile, leaders of 10 countries, including France and the UK, announced in the last two days that they recognized Palestine as a state. The United Nations General Assembly has turned into a Palestine summit in this regard. The UK, Australia, Portugal, and Canada had announced their decisions a day before the summit.
During the General Assembly, France, Monaco, Luxembourg, Belgium, Malta, and Andorra declared that they recognized Palestine as a state. With these steps, the number of UN member countries recognizing the State of Palestine has risen to 156 out of 193. The Vatican, which is not a UN member, also recognizes the State of Palestine.
This step signifies a historic advancement for Palestine and the Middle East. The moves of leaders emphasizing the importance of a two-state solution, although currently symbolic, indicate that international pressure on Israel, which is continuing its genocidal war in Gaza, has significantly increased.
DECISIONS ANGERED ISRAEL
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to annex the occupied Palestinian territory of the West Bank in response to the recognition decision. "There will be no Palestinian state," he said.
Netanyahu claimed that they have been preventing the establishment of a Palestinian state for years and would not allow it to happen, stating that they have doubled the number of illegal Jewish settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories and will continue on this path. Netanyahu said he would respond to countries' decisions to recognize the Palestinian state after returning from the US, warning with the words "Wait and see," implying a threat to annex the West Bank.
