Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on his social media account that the perpetrators of the baby, whose lifeless body was found in a bag 20 years ago, have been caught.
A BABY'S BODY WRAPPED IN A CLOTH WAS FOUND IN A BAG
In his statement, Minister Yerlikaya said, "As part of the investigation conducted by the Bingöl Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, coordinated by the Gendarmerie General Command's Public Order Department, and carried out by the Bingöl Provincial Gendarmerie Command's Public Order Branch JASAT teams; on November 16, 2005, a baby girl's body wrapped in a cloth was found in a sports bag near the Elazığ-Bingöl highway. However, the perpetrators of the incident could not be reached from the existing evidence. In 2024, we formed a special team within JASAT to re-examine the case. Four suspects were identified and placed under technical and physical surveillance. The suspects were captured in a joint operation conducted by the Bingöl Provincial Gendarmerie Command's JASAT teams and the Bursa Provincial Gendarmerie Command teams in Bursa, where they resided, and were brought to Bingöl," he said.
THE BABY'S MOTHER WAS ARRESTED
Yerlikaya stated, "Through meticulous work, it was determined that an individual named D.A. abandoned her baby, whom she gave birth to as a result of an extramarital affair, along with the other suspects in a bag. The individual named D.A. was arrested after being referred to the court. Judicial control measures were imposed on three other suspects. This year, JASAT has solved 100% of the unsolved murder cases it has examined. I congratulate our Bingöl Governor, our Bingöl Chief Public Prosecutor who coordinated the operation, and our Bingöl Provincial Gendarmerie Command and JASAT teams who carried out the operations. Those heartless individuals who abandoned a baby without even giving it a name could not escape from JASAT. We continue our fight day and night with our special teams to ensure that no crime goes unpunished," he expressed.
