In the investigation into the death of Rojin Kabaiş, whose body was found 18 days after she went missing in Van, it was revealed that there was no data flow on the young girl's phone between 19:04 and 20:03 on the day she disappeared. The family's lawyer, Abdurrahman Karabulut, claimed that the incident occurred during this 1-hour period and that the internet usage continuing from 20:03 until 09:00 in the morning was carried out by the perpetrators. It was requested that the case be transferred to JASAT and that the marine vehicles in the lake be examined.
Very critical new details have emerged in the investigation into the death of Rojin Kabaiş, whose body was found 18 days after she went missing in Van. The family's lawyer, Abdurrahman Karabulut, stated that there was no data flow on Rojin's phone between 19:04 and 20:03 on the day she disappeared, adding that they believe the incident occurred during this 1-hour period, and that the data flow from 20:03 until 09:00 in the morning was provided by the perpetrators.
Rojin Kabaiş, a 21-year-old first-year student in the Child Development Department of the Faculty of Education at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, went missing on September 27, 2024, and the tragic news came 18 days later. Kabaiş's lifeless body was found on the shore of Lake Van. In a report dated October 10, 2025, from the Biological Specialization Department of the Forensic Medicine Institute, it was stated that DNA samples belonging to two men were found in Kabaiş's chest and internal vaginal area. Samples taken from over 500 people were examined as part of the investigation, but no match has been found yet.
"WE REQUESTED THAT THE FILE BE TRANSFERRED FROM THE POLICE TO JASAT"
Abdurrahman Karabulut, the lawyer for the Kabaiş family, who made statements regarding the latest developments in the investigation, said that DNA samples were taken from approximately 600 people, and that the prosecutor's office aims to expand this examination to cover over 2,500 people. Speaking to A Haber, Karabulut said, "As you know, DNA belonging to 2 men was found in Rojin's most private areas. DNA samples were taken from over 500, close to 600 people. No match has been made with any of them. There are negative results so far. The prosecutor has a target to examine DNA from over 2,500 people. We requested that the file be taken from the police and given to JASAT. As you know, JASAT is more specialized in these matters."
"WE BELIEVE SHE WAS TAKEN BY LAND VEHICLE AND THROWN INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE LAKE"
Karabulut also shared the horrific scenario they have reached regarding the manner of the murder and the disposal of the body in the lake, stating that they also requested that marine vehicles in the region be examined: "We believe that Rojin, either alive or after being killed, was taken by a land vehicle and then thrown into the middle of Lake Van. Based on this strong possibility, we requested an investigation into marine vehicles. The investigations are ongoing."
THE SUSPICIOUS 1-HOUR GAP FROM THE PHONE
It was emphasized that the mobile phone, which has been sent to Spain and China so far but whose password has not yet been cracked or opened, is the most critical key point of the investigation. Karabulut, who stated that Kabaiş made uninterrupted phone calls until reaching the point where she disappeared, noted that these calls might have been made via WhatsApp or Instagram. However, it was stated that the detail that truly raised suspicion in the phone examinations occurred between 19:04 and 20:03: "But there is a gap between 19:04 and 20:03. There is no data flow, no activity on the mobile phone. We believe that whatever happened occurred during that time. The data flow from 20:03 until 09:00 in the morning was detected from Rojin's internet."
"THOSE WHO KIDNAPPED ROJIN USED THE PHONE UNTIL MORNING"
Lawyer Karabulut, who argues that the internet usage detected from 20:03 until 09:00 the next morning was carried out by the very individuals who committed the murder, concluded his words as follows: "The conclusion is forming that Rojin's mobile phone was in the hands of those who kidnapped and killed her as of that moment, and that the data flow was carried out by them. Because if the mobile phone had been in Rojin's hands, there were people calling her until morning. I believe that serious results will emerge regarding the day Rojin disappeared, that is, until September 27."
