According to news reflected in the country's media, Pezeşkiyan brought up the issue of relocating the capital from Tehran once again during his speech at the Hatemu'l Enbiya Headquarters yesterday. "WE HAVE NO OTHER OPTION"The Iranian President expressed that he believes it has become impossible to keep Tehran as the capital for various reasons, primarily economic. He stated, "The capital of the country, Tehran, is facing unresolved issues. No matter what we do, we are wasting time. Therefore, we have no option but to move the country's economic and political center to a place closer to the south and the sea." VICE PRESIDENT ASSIGNEDPezeşkiyan shared that the First Vice President of the Republic, Mohammad Reza Arif, has been tasked with following up on the plans to relocate the capital, stating, "Ignoring this issue could leave the country facing environmental crises and many other problems in the future." The plan to move the capital from Tehran, which has a population of approximately 20 million, to another city was first approved on December 25, 2013, with the votes of 110 members of the 290-seat parliament. The council established within the framework of the plan was working on determining "the best alternative for the capital." So far, no steps have been taken regarding this issue.
