It has been reported that Ziya Gökmen Togay, the president of İSTAÇ, who is detained in the investigation of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), has fallen ill in prison. The president of İSTAÇ, which is the leading organization of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in the field of environmental services and waste management, became unwell while being held in prison as part of the ongoing investigation against him. Details regarding the situation have not yet been clarified.
The General Manager of Istanbul Environmental Management Industry and Trade Inc. (İSTAÇ), Ziya Gökmen Togay, who is detained as part of the operation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), fell ill due to high blood pressure around 19:00 last night. Togay pressed the emergency button and was taken by ambulance to the prison's hospital by the prison management. Togay, who has claustrophobia and high blood pressure issues, was sent back to the prison after receiving treatment for 4 hours.
TOGAY WAS DETAINED IN THE FOURTH OPERATION AGAINST İBB
He was one of the 46 people detained in the fourth operation conducted on May 23 as part of the İBB investigation. The prosecution had referred 36 people to the peace criminal court with a request for arrest and 10 others with a request for judicial control. Of the individuals detained in the fourth operation against İBB, 25 were arrested while 21 were released under judicial control. According to the court decisions announced in the early hours of May 26, one of the names arrested was İSTAÇ Board Chairman Ziya Gökmen Togay.
WHY WAS ZİYA GÖKMEN TOGAY DETAINED?
In a statement made by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the operation, the following was noted: "As part of the file numbered 2024/228233 being conducted by our Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, regarding the irregularities identified primarily in İstaç, Kiptaş, and the Road Maintenance Department, on 23/05/2025, warrants for arrest, detention, search, and seizure were issued for 49 individuals, including suspects Ali KURT, Ziya Gökmen TOGAY, İbrahim BÜLBÜLLÜ, Nezahat KURT, and Mustafa AKIN. The Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Investigation Unit has been instructed to carry out these operations, and as of now, the operations for arrest, detention, search, and seizure related to the suspects are ongoing."
