Israel's National Security Minister, far-right Ben-Gvir, claimed that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu made proposals to convince him to remain in the coalition, such as "removing Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi from his position." However, a statement from the Prime Minister's Office indicated that the claim was "completely false."

A far-right minister in Israel said that Netanyahu made promises to keep him in the coalition. Speaking to Israel's Channel 12 television, Ben-Gvir stated that Netanyahu tried to convince him after he announced he would resign upon the implementation of a ceasefire and a mutual prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza.

Ben-Gvir explained that Netanyahu offered him more Israeli settlements to be established on lands seized from Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, along with far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who announced he would resign from the government with the activation of the second phase of the agreement.

HE PROMISED TO REMOVE HALEVI

The National Security Minister reported that Netanyahu also promised to remove Israel's Chief of Staff Halevi, claiming that the Prime Minister "presented this as something he was doing on behalf of Ben-Gvir."

In a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, it was noted that the claim of promises made to Ben-Gvir to keep him in the coalition was "completely false."

CALL FOR GOVERNMENT RESIGNATION

In a social media post made later, Ben-Gvir stated that Netanyahu did not clearly indicate that he would return to attacks on Gaza after the second phase of the ceasefire.

Ben-Gvir, who expressed hope that coalition partner Smotrich would understand "how careless the agreement is" following Netanyahu's statements, addressed Smotrich with the words, "Even if you don't help prevent the first phase of this surrender agreement, help prevent the second phase. Tell the Israeli Prime Minister that you will resign, but let’s announce that we will return to the government together if the Israeli army resolutely goes to war."

DEFENSE MINISTER ALSO DENIED

Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz also denied the claim in a written statement that a promise was made to remove the Chief of Staff on behalf of Ben-Gvir.

Katz stated, "The Chief of Staff is not related to any political issue and will not be associated with one."

Ben-Gvir had announced that with the implementation of the agreement, he would resign along with other members of the Jewish Power Party in the cabinet.

Smotrich had stated that he was against the agreement and that attacks on Gaza should resume without moving to the second phase of the ceasefire after 42 days.

CEASEFIRE WILL START THIS MORNING

It was announced that the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement reached between Hamas and Israel would be implemented on January 19 at 08:30 (UTC+3 09:30).

Netanyahu claimed that the Gaza ceasefire was "temporary," suggesting that if an agreement could not be reached for the second phase, elected U.S. President Donald Trump would be granted the "right to resume attacks on Israel."

The Israeli Prime Minister stated, "I would like to say that the war is not over yet."
