The cancellation decision regarding the mosque project planned to be built at Kadıköy Pier was overturned on appeal, while the Istanbul Regional Administrative Court rejected the case, giving judicial approval to the project, and the construction process is expected to begin in the coming months.

An important judicial decision has been made regarding the mosque project planned to be built at the Kadıköy Pier in Istanbul. The previously issued cancellation decision was overturned as a result of the appellate review. The Istanbul Regional Administrative Court ruled to reject the case, paving the way for the mosque project with a capacity of 20,000 people.

CANCELLATION DECISION OVERTURNED

The mosque project, announced to the public in 2015, had been taken to court by the Kadıköy Municipality. During the legal process, which included the Union of Turkish Engineers and Architects Chamber of Architects Istanbul Metropolitan Branch, the Istanbul 3rd Administrative Court had canceled the project in 2024. After the decision was appealed, the Istanbul Regional Administrative Court's 4th Administrative Chamber reviewed the file and overturned the cancellation ruling with its decision dated December 15, 2025, ruling to reject the case. With this decision, the judicial process for the mosque planned to be built at Kadıköy Pier has concluded positively.

TO BE BUILT ON THE COASTLINE

The mosque project is planned to be located at a point close to the coastline in Kadıköy Pier Square and within the existing square arrangement. Authorities stated that the project has been designed to be compatible with the silhouette of the region and the environmental texture. Following the finalization of the court decision, it is expected that the relevant institutions will begin preparations for the implementation process. In this context, it is anticipated that the zoning and implementation projects will be updated and the necessary permit processes will be completed.

WORKS MAY START IN THE COMING MONTHS

No specific timeline has been shared regarding the start date of the construction works. However, it is stated that the process will gain momentum in the coming months, depending on the completion of administrative procedures. With the realization of the project, it is aimed to meet an important need for worship along the Kadıköy coastline.
