The government is bringing two pieces of good news. The regulations regarding the unfairness of premium days for small tradesmen affiliated with Bağ-Kur and the provision of premium support for housewives, which were promised during the election period, are aimed to be implemented by the end of the year. The premium days for small tradesmen will be equalized with those of SSK, and one-third of the premiums for housewives will be covered by the state.
A promise of early retirement has come for millions of people. The government's agenda includes regulations regarding the equalization of the premium day count for small tradesmen subject to Bağ-Kur with those insured under SSK, meaning the reduction of 9,000 premium days to 7,200 days, and the state covering one-third of the insurance premiums paid voluntarily by housewives.
COST ANALYSES ARE BEING CONDUCTED
According to a report in Türkiye newspaper; the studies initiated by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security within the scope of providing premium support to housewives, which is one of the most important promises of the AK Party in the May 14, 2023 elections, are ongoing. In this regard, the ministry is primarily conducting cost analyses.
RIGHT TO WEAR AND TEAR FOR HOUSEWIVES
It is stated that the implementation of premium support for housewives could be brought to the agenda of the Parliament in a short time. In the AK Party's election manifesto, it was stated, "Housewives contribute to the national economy and increase family welfare without receiving any payment for their labor at home. We see having a guarantee like retirement as one of the most fundamental rights of housewives for their labor. In this context, we will cover one-third of the premiums that housewives will voluntarily pay as the state. We will also provide the right to wear and tear to housewives due to the heavy workload of some professions," was mentioned.
IT WILL BECOME LAW BY THE END OF THE YEAR
Within the scope of this regulation, a system will be established for the state to pay one-third of the premium that is required for the voluntary insurance of housewives. Since housewives will be voluntarily insured, they will also benefit from health services free of charge. An impact analysis is being conducted on issues such as how many children a woman has, whether there are disabled children at home, and how long of a service period is required for retirement. This study is planned to be completed by the end of July, then discussed in the Economic Coordination Board, and legislated in the Parliament by the end of the year.
THE PREMIUM DAY COUNT FOR SMALL TRADESMEN IS BEING REDUCED TO 7,200 DAYS
On the other hand, the regulation regarding the equalization of the premium day count for small tradesmen subject to Bağ-Kur with those insured under SSK, which was promised by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the 2023 elections, is also among the government's agenda items.
THE PROMISE WAS MADE BY ERDOĞAN
During the election campaign, Erdoğan stated that he wanted to give good news to small tradesmen such as hairdressers, greengrocers, grocers, plumbers, and market vendors, saying, "We are reducing the premium payment day count of our small tradesmen from 9,000 to 7,200 days by equalizing it with those insured under SSK. This will be one of the first tasks we will undertake in the new term, and hopefully, one million of our small tradesmen will benefit from this work."
1 MILLION TRADESMEN WILL BENEFIT
If the work announced by Erdoğan becomes law, more than one million small tradesmen will gain the right to early retirement. It is stated that the regulation regarding the equalization of the Bağ-Kur premium day count with those insured under SSK may come to the agenda after the completion of the process related to housewives.
