THE FILE HAD GONE TO APPEAL
The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had completed the work on the appeal petitions sent to the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeal by the Ministry of Family and Social Services and the Diyarbakır Bar Association as "participants," and by the father Arif Güran and the defendant's lawyers as "complainants," regarding the trial conducted at the 8th Heavy Criminal Court. The court had sent the case file, consisting of 17 folders, along with the appeal petitions for evaluation to the 1st Criminal Chamber of the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeal.
An appeal has been made to the Regional Court of Appeal regarding the 4 year and 6 month prison sentence given to Nevzat Bahtiyar for the crime of "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence" by the Ministry of Family and Social Services, the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and the Diyarbakır Bar Association, with the petitions submitted requesting the defendant to be punished for "intentional murder of a child in complicity."
The lawyers of detained defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar also requested in their appeal petitions that the appeals made against their client be rejected on the merits, and that the 4 year and 6 month prison sentence given by the Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Criminal Court be lifted in favor of their client and that a decision for his release be made.
The lawyer representing Arif Güran, the father of Narin Güran, also requested the annulment of the 4 year and 6 month prison sentence imposed on defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar for the crime of "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence," and requested that the defendant be punished for "intentional murder of a child in complicity" under Article 82/1-e of the Turkish Penal Code.
The lawyers of the defendants, mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran, requested the annulment of the ruling under which their clients were sentenced for "intentional murder of a child in complicity," and requested a decision for their release and acquittal. Additionally, the lawyer of uncle Salim Güran requested that defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar be separately punished for the crimes of "intentional murder of a child, sexual abuse of a child, and restriction of freedom."
MURDER OF NARIN GÜRAN
In the rural Tavşantepe neighborhood of Bağlar district in Diyarbakır, after Narin Güran went missing on August 21, her body was found in a stream bed on the 19th day of the search efforts. A case has been opened against 4 of the 12 people arrested in connection with her murder at the Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Criminal Court. In the indictment prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that Narin's uncle Salim Güran, her mother Yüksel Güran, and her brother Enes Güran, along with neighbors who confessed to carrying her body to the stream bed, were identified as being in the same house at the time of the incident according to HTS and base station records, and aggravated life imprisonment was requested for the crime of "intentional murder of a child in complicity."
