In the context of the betting scandal, 152 referees were referred to the Professional Football Discipline Board (PFDK) on charges of "betting." The referees who will be tried under Article 57 could face penalties ranging from a 3-month to a 1-year suspension or deprivation of rights.

152 REFEREES REFERRED TO PFDK

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) referred 152 referees and observers to the PFDK as part of the betting investigation that shook the football world. Among these names are 22 top-class referees who officiate in the Super League and 1st League. The reason for the referral was the violation of the "Betting" prohibition stated in Article 57 of the Football Discipline Regulation. Following the betting scandal, the football public is curious about what kind of sanctions the referees in question will face.

SUSPENSION OR DEPRIVATION OF RIGHTS FROM 3 MONTHS TO 1 YEAR

Article 57 of the TFF's Football Discipline Regulation strictly prohibits individuals involved in football from participating in betting activities.

The relevant part of the article is as follows;

"Individuals involved in football cannot place bets on football matches or facilitate betting. Those who violate this prohibition shall be punished with a suspension or deprivation of rights ranging from three months to one year." In this context, as a result of the examination to be conducted by the PFDK, referees may receive penalties ranging from 3 months to 1 year.

REFEREES WHO RECEIVE PENALTIES OF MORE THAN 45 DAYS WILL LOSE THEIR REFEREE STATUS

There is also a critical threshold regarding their refereeing careers. According to the TFF Referee Regulation, referees who receive a deprivation of rights or suspension penalty of more than 45 days will automatically lose their licenses.

This situation means disqualification from the profession for many referees whose names are involved in the betting scandal. When the disciplinary process is completed, it is expected that a significant number of referees will bid farewell to their careers in line with the decisions made by the PFDK.
