The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has referred 152 referees, who were found to have engaged in betting, to the Professional Football Discipline Board. The referees sent for disciplinary action will be tried on charges of 'betting' and will have to provide their defense within 48 hours. Among those involved in this scandal are 7 top-level referees, including FIFA badge referee Zorbay Küçük. The Turkish Football Federation's Legal Committee referred 152 referees to the Professional Football Discipline Committee due to allegations of betting. Among them, 7 top-level referees who officiated in Super League and 1st League matches were included in the list.
THEY WILL PROVIDE A DEFENSE WITHIN 48 HOURS
In addition to these names, 15 top-level assistant referees, 36 category referees, and 94 category assistant referees were referred to the PFDK. The relevant referees will provide a defense within 48 hours of the announcement of the decision.
NAMES OF 7 TOP-LEVEL REFEREES
The scandalous list included 7 top-level referees. Among these names are FIFA-licensed referee Zorbay Küçük, as well as Yunus Dursun, Seyfettin Alper Yılmaz, Muhammed Selim Özbek, Melih Kurt, Mehmet Ali Özer, and Egemen Artun.
PERFORMANCE OF TOP-LEVEL REFEREES THIS SEASON
The match performances of the 7 referees are as follows:
- Zorbay Küçük: officiated in 9 matches, showed 40 yellow cards, 1 red card, and awarded 3 penalties.
- Yunus Dursun: issued 15 yellow cards and 1 red card in 3 matches, awarded 3 penalties.
- Seyfettin Alper Yılmaz: showed 17 yellow cards in 4 matches.
- Melih Kurt: awarded 22 yellow cards and 2 penalties in 5 matches.
- Mehmet Ali Özer: issued 16 yellow cards and awarded 1 penalty in 3 matches.
- Egemen Artun: showed 18 yellow cards and awarded 1 penalty in 4 matches.
- Muhammed Selim Özbek: officiated in 3 matches, card statistics were not disclosed.
THEIR CAREERS ARE AT RISK
As a result of the PFDK's evaluation, referees who receive more than 45 days of suspension will have their licenses revoked, and their refereeing careers will come to an end. Therefore, the penalties that the aforementioned 7 referees will receive could create a significant turning point in the refereeing community of Turkish football.
