An indictment has been prepared against Selçuk Tengioğlu, who attacked CHP leader Özgür Özel during the funeral ceremony held for TBMM Deputy Speaker Sırrı Süreyya Önder at AKM, on charges of "intentional injury due to the public duty performed by the individual," with a requested prison sentence of 2 years and 3 months to 4.5 years.
The investigation into Selçuk Tengioğlu, who attacked CHP Chairman Özgür Özel at the exit of the funeral ceremony held for the Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and DEM Party Istanbul Deputy Sırrı Sürreyya Önder at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) on May 4, has been completed.
THE REQUESTED PENALTY IS CLEAR
The prosecutor stated that when the entire file is evaluated as a whole; it has been established that the attacker Selçuk Tengioğlu committed the act in question due to the public duty of the complainant Özgür Özel, who is still the Chairman of the Republican People's Party and also holds the title of deputy, considering the statement taken from the suspect.
In the prepared indictment, it was requested that the suspect be punished for the crime of "intentional injury due to the performance of a public duty" with a prison sentence of 2 years and 3 months to 4.5 years. The indictment was sent to the Criminal Court of First Instance.
THE ATTACKER TURNED OUT TO BE A CHILD KILLER
The attacker Selçuk Tengioğlu was arrested by the duty magistrate on Tuesday, May 6. The ministry announced that the suspect had killed two of his children and injured two others in 2004, and also had a record for "theft" and "threat." Özgür Özel stated that the attack was "planned" to send a message of "withdraw from the street," saying, "We will not bend an inch, we will not take a step back."
"NO CONNECTION WITH ANY ORGANIZATION"
In the indictment, it was noted that the camera recordings showing all the movements of the suspect Selçuk Tengioğlu from the moment he left the hotel until he committed the attack were examined and included in the file. It was recorded that in all examinations conducted regarding the incident, no determination could be made that the suspect had any connection or affiliation with any criminal organization or terrorist group.
IT WAS ALLEGED THAT HE COMMITTED THE ATTACK ALONE
In the indictment, it was stated that the necessary investigations regarding whether there were any individuals who participated in the attack were carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and in this context, correspondence was made with the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) to examine all account movements of the attacker Selçuk Tengioğlu before the act, and it was noted that the account movements were examined in detail.
Additionally, all GSM lines used by the suspect were identified, and HTS data for the past 5 years were examined to determine the individuals he contacted before the attack.
As a result of these investigations, it was emphasized that the statements of all individuals the suspect Selçuk Tengioğlu contacted or mentioned in his statement were taken. It was stated that all matters requested to be investigated by the lawyer of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel were investigated. It was noted that in the HTS Analysis Report and MASAK data prepared for the suspect Selçuk Tengioğlu, no data was found regarding individuals who participated in the attack.
HE SAID IN HIS STATEMENT, "I DID IT IN A MOMENT OF ANGER"
In the indictment, it was stated that "In summary, the suspect admitted the accusations in his statement, mentioned that he saw a crowd when he went to Taksim Square on the day of the incident, learned that there was a funeral ceremony at the Atatürk Cultural Center from the people in the crowd, entered the area to participate in the funeral ceremony, and was waiting, and at that moment he saw the complainant and stated that he committed the act in question in a moment of anger."
