After Canada announced that it would impose a 25% additional charge on the electricity it supplies to U.S. states, a retaliation from U.S. President Donald Trump was swift. Trump stated that starting tomorrow, a new 25% tariff would be applied to steel and aluminum coming from Canada to the U.S., adding, "I will declare a National Emergency regarding electricity."

The tax war between the US and Canada has intensified. The province of Ontario in Canada announced that it will impose an additional 25% charge on the electricity supplied to US states. A response from the US to Canada's move was not delayed.

TRUMP'S ADDITIONAL TAX ON CANADA

US President Donald Trump announced that he has instructed to impose an additional 25% customs duty on all steel and aluminum imported from Canada as a retaliation, stating that the new tariff will come into effect starting tomorrow morning. Thus, the applied tariff will rise from 25% to 50%. Trump described Canada as "one of the countries with the highest customs duties in the world."

"CANADA IS A TARIFF ABUSER"

Trump made a statement regarding the decision taken by the province of Ontario on his Truth Social account. He pointed out that Canada imposes tariffs ranging from "250%" to "390%" on many agricultural products from the US, reminding that they will impose tariffs on Canada that will come into effect on April 2nd in response to Ontario's decision. Trump stated, "Canada is a tariff abuser and has always been, but the US will no longer subsidize Canada. We do not need your cars, your lumber, your energy, and you will learn this very soon."

"I WILL DECLARE A NATIONAL EMERGENCY"

Pointing to the difficulty created by the customs duty that Ontario will impose on electricity sold to the US, Trump said, "I will declare a National Emergency regarding electricity in that region in a short period of time. This will ensure that the US can quickly take the necessary actions to mitigate this malicious threat from Canada."

THE US HAD IMPOSED ADDITIONAL TARIFFS ON ITS TWO NEIGHBORS

The additional 25% customs duty on products imported from Canada and Mexico by the US began on March 4. Trump later announced that they would not impose customs tariffs on products covered by the "United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA)" until April 2. US President Donald Trump also stated that additional tariffs on the country's steel and aluminum imports would come into effect on March 12.

ONTARIO'S RETALIATION AGAINST THE US

The Premier of Ontario, Canada's most populous province, Doug Ford, announced yesterday that they would increase the electricity supplied to US states by 25% in response to the customs duties imposed by the Washington administration. Ford emphasized that he would not hesitate to increase this rate if necessary, stating, "If the US escalates this, I will not hesitate to completely cut off electricity. I feel very sorry for the American people because they are not the ones who started this trade war. There is only one person responsible, and that is President Trump."
