The sudden change in color of a stream flowing through the Güneysu district of Rize to red has raised concerns about an environmental disaster among the local population. Citizens reported the situation to the authorities and requested urgent intervention.
The color of the stream passing through the Sırtlar area in the Ulucami neighborhood of Güneysu district in Rize turning red has caused concern among the local population. Citizens worried about the environmental disaster have called for urgent intervention from the authorities.
"THERE MAY NOT BE A SINGLE LIVING CREATURE LEFT"
A citizen named Mevlüt Ak, who recorded the moments when the stream turned red with his mobile phone, said, "An environmental massacre is taking place here. Is there no owner of this stream? The district governor and the muhtar should hold those responsible accountable. It has been flowing like this for hours. There may not be a single living creature left. I call on the esteemed district governor to take action," he said.
FLOWING RED FOR AN HOUR
The footage shows that the stream flowed red for about an hour, while local citizens stated that they could not understand why the water turned this color. The situation has been reported to the district governor's office and relevant institutions.
"WE COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENED, WE ARE SURPRISED"
The muhtar of Ulucami neighborhood, Mustafa Ak, described the situation with the following words: "The incident developed spontaneously. A relative called me to inform me about the situation, and I asked him to take footage. Later, I reported the situation to the district governor's office, the municipality, and the police. The municipal police and officials from the Environmental Directorate came, but no findings were found in the stream. We are also surprised. At first, we thought there might be some work going on upstream, but there is no such situation. It was thought to be soil, but there was foam formation, not soil. Right now, we don't know what it is either."
INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
While the authorities continue their investigations regarding the incident, citizens are demanding stricter inspections against such events that could lead to environmental disasters.
