Bahattin Sürücü, the President of the Ecosystem Protection and Nature Lovers Association (EKODOSD) in Aydın, went to the beach in Güzelçamlı neighborhood early yesterday morning to check the nesting area of the loggerhead sea turtle (caretta caretta) that laid eggs on the Kuşadası coast.

While checking if there were other nests on the beach in front of Gölkent Site, Bahattin Sürücü noticed a flowering plant at the point where the walking path meets the sand. After the examination, it was determined that the flowering plant was the sand lily, scientifically named 'Pancratium maritimum'. The re-emergence of the sand lily in Kuşadası after a long time excited nature lovers. The flowering sand lily was protected by surrounding it.

"LET'S USE THE BEACHES CLEANLY"

Stating that there are beaches extending approximately 20 kilometers in Kuşadası, EKODOSD President Bahattin Sürücü said, "During the summer season, thousands of people use the beaches. However, there is intense environmental pollution in beaches that are not used properly and cleanly. Vehicles are used for the cleaning of polluted beaches. The constant movement of vehicles on the beaches also damages the growing areas of the sand lilies. If we keep the Kuşadası beaches clean, the sand lilies will bloom again," he said.
