RUNWAY UNDER CONSTRUCTION
According to a report by the Washington Post, based on two officials familiar with the matter, the plan regarding the uranium in Iran was prepared by U.S. military officials at Trump's request and was presented to him last week. The plan envisions the dispatch of excavation equipment to the region and the construction of a runway for cargo planes to transport radioactive material in order to seize approximately 450 kilograms of highly enriched uranium in Iran.
THOUSANDS OF SOLDIERS NEEDED
Meanwhile, experts speaking to the U.S. press pointed out that hundreds or even thousands of soldiers and heavy equipment may need to be airlifted to the region for the extraction of radioactive material. Experts emphasized that the operation would be extremely challenging and could take weeks.
IRAN'S URANIUM STOCKPILE IS 400 KG
It was assessed that before the airstrikes by Israel and the U.S. against Iran last year, the country possessed more than 400 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60% and approximately 200 kilograms of fissile material at a 20% level, which could easily be raised to 90% weapon-grade levels.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on March 27 that Washington could achieve its objectives without the need for ground operations, while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth indicated on March 13 that it was preferred for Iran to voluntarily transfer its uranium, but military options were also available in case of otherwise.
