Emrah Akpınar, who was arrested for killing his estranged wife Emine Akpınar by shooting her six times with a gun in the Canik district of Samsun, has been sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.

On April 15, around 10:30 PM, in the Karşıyaka neighborhood of Canik district in Samsun, Emine Akpınar was shot by her husband Emrah Akpınar, from whom she was in the process of divorce and had a restraining order against.

KILLED WITH 6 BULLETS

Emine Akpınar, a mother of three, was hit by 6 bullets and lost her life, while Emrah Akpınar, who has 6 criminal records, fled the scene. It was learned that Emrah Akpınar had stabbed and killed his brother İdris Akpınar in 2016 and was sentenced to 16 years and 8 months in prison by the Samsun 3rd Heavy Penal Court, from which he was released a short time ago. The police, who were working on the murder case, also detained his nephew Ali Özkan (26), who brought and took Emrah Akpınar to the scene in a car during the incident.

NEPHEW ARRESTED

Özkan stated in his testimony that his uncle picked him up from home and took him to the scene, and that first Emrah Akpınar knocked on the door, then he did, but no one answered. He said he did not hear any gunshots when the divorcing couple encountered each other on the street. Later, he mentioned that Emrah Akpınar got out of the car at the Nakliyeciler Site and left the vehicle to him, and Ali Özkan was arrested on April 16. E.Y. (30), a car wash friend who picked up Akpınar from Nakliyeciler Site and dropped him off in a rural neighborhood in Atakum district, was also detained on April 18. The suspect, whose procedures at the police station were completed, was released by the court with judicial control conditions.

CAUGHT IN A STABLE

Emrah Akpınar was caught on the night of April 19 in the stable of his relative N.A.'s (44) house in the Camii neighborhood of Atakum district. In his statement, he said, "I love my wife. We had a divorce case between us. I went to my wife's house with my nephew. Since I had a restraining order, I sent my nephew to the house. I went there to talk about the divorce case. I couldn't reach her before the incident. While sitting in the car, I saw her walking on the road and called out to her. At first, she hesitated, then I called out again. We started talking. I asked her where she came from. She said, 'Are you a man too? I'm coming from my lover.' After that, I don't remember what happened. I shot at her. When I came to my senses, the magazine was empty. If it hadn't been empty, I would have shot myself too. I returned to the car, took the car. There was a distance between Ali and me; he might not have heard the gunshots. I gave the car to Ali in the truck park. I stayed in the village where E.Y. dropped me off in the morning. I told him my truck was broken and asked him to drop me off in the village," Akpınar was also arrested.

HE SHOT HER AFTER KNOCKING HER DOWN

The Samsun Chief Public Prosecutor's Office prepared an indictment against Emrah Akpınar, Ali Özkan, N.A., and E.Y. In the indictment accepted by the Samsun 5th Heavy Penal Court, it was requested that Akpınar be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of 'intentional killing of a woman or a relative by blood or marriage,' and 1 to 3 years in prison for 'carrying and possessing an unlicensed firearm.' An aggravated life sentence was requested for Ali Özkan for the crime of 'intentional killing of a woman or a relative by blood or marriage,' while 6 months to 5 years in prison was requested for E.Y. and N.A. for the crime of 'aiding a criminal.' The indictment stated that 6 bullets hit Emine Akpınar's body, 3 of which were fatal. It was also noted in the indictment that Emrah Akpınar attempted to forcibly drag Emine Akpınar at the scene, and when she did not come, he shot her, continuing to fire at close range when she fell to the ground.

AGGRAVATED LIFE SENTENCE IMPOSED

The second hearing of the case was held on October 30. After the defenses, the prosecutor presented his opinion. In the opinion, it was requested that the defendants be punished for the crimes attributed to them in the indictment. In the decision hearing held today, the defendants, their lawyers, and Emine Akpınar's family attended. The defendants repeated their statements from the prosecution stage. The court panel sentenced Emrah Akpınar to aggravated life imprisonment for 'intentional killing of a woman or spouse,' 3 years for 'carrying an unlicensed firearm,' and E.Y. received a 10-month prison sentence for 'aiding a criminal.' N.A. and Ali Özkan were acquitted of the charges against them.
