Aysel Duran, who shot and killed her husband during an argument in Izmit, has received a verdict in her case at the Kocaeli 4th High Criminal Court.
KILLED HER HUSBAND IN A DISPUTE OVER INFIDELITY The incident occurred on January 29, 2025, late at night in a building on Büyük Çiftlik Street in the Yahya Kaptan neighborhood. According to the information obtained, Aysel Duran (43), a mother of two, started arguing with her husband Emrah Duran (42) at home. As the argument escalated over the issue of infidelity, Aysel Duran fired at her husband with a gun from the house. Health and police teams were dispatched to the scene following a report made to the 112 Emergency Call Center. The health teams determined that Emrah Duran had lost his life. The woman, who was taken into custody, was arrested by the court she was brought to and sent to prison.
"YOUR DEAD BODY WILL COME OUT OF HERE" The final hearing of the case related to the incident was held at the Kocaeli 4th High Criminal Court. The detained defendant, her lawyer, and the victim's brother attended the hearing. Claiming that the incident was self-defense, defendant Aysel Duran stated, "I did not do it intentionally or with premeditation. I have been going through tough times with Emrah lately. We even sought help from family counselors to resolve these issues. He was constantly threatening me by saying that I was cheating on him. On the night of the incident, we had an argument for the same reason. I picked up the gun to kill myself. I even pointed the gun to my head, but when I heard my children's voices, I lowered the gun. Emrah told me, 'Your dead body will come out of here.' I closed my eyes and fired to stop my husband. I have two daughters, I love them very much. I wish I had shot myself that night; I still don't see my children. I ask for forgiveness from everyone. Emrah wanted to kill me recently. He was looking for evidence but couldn't find any; I didn't do it on purpose, I regret it," she said.
24 YEARS IN PRISON The court panel that concluded the case found that the conditions for self-defense were not met in the actions of the defendant Aysel Duran. Considering the manner of the crime, the severity of the defendant's intentional fault, her purpose, and the reason, the panel initially sentenced Duran to life imprisonment. Then, ruling that the act was committed under 'unjust provocation,' the panel reduced the sentence to 24 years in prison by applying a discount from the lower limit.
