WHAT IS THE SOIL STEPPING FEE?

The "soil stepping fee" tradition, which has been kept alive in Bursa and surrounding regions for centuries, is based on a historical tax collected from those entering the city or village during the Ottoman period. Today, it refers to a symbolic tip taken through a fun negotiation by the bride's family's young people or locals who block the groom's convoy at weddings. The soil stepping fee is collected from the best man and groom in exchange for allowing the convoy to pass.
