Hampton Dellinger, the former head of the U.S. Special Counsel's Office who was dismissed by President Donald Trump, has filed a lawsuit against Trump. Dellinger stated that his removal was unlawful.
The President of the Office of Special Counsel (OSC), Hampton Dellinger, has sued President Donald Trump, arguing that his dismissal was illegal.
Dellinger stated that he learned of his termination via an email sent on Friday from the White House on behalf of Trump.
FILED A LAWSUIT
Dellinger, who filed a lawsuit in the Washington Federal Court regarding his dismissal, said that the decision contradicts legal precedent.
Dellinger argued that he could only be removed for "incompetence, neglect of duty, or misconduct," and claimed that the president's decision was unlawful.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Since taking office on January 20, President Trump has dismissed many individuals working in various federal agencies, particularly the Department of Justice. Democrats in Congress criticized that among those Trump dismissed were names like Special Counsel Jack Smith, who previously conducted an investigation against him.
