Security camera footage captured the moment Eduardo Alves approached a parked car and looked through the windshield, seeing his wife inside with another man.
Enraged, Alves punched the windows, opened the car door, and began to beat the man inside.
It was later learned that the wife, who regularly attended church, told a friend that she had received a message from "God to help the homeless man."
The incident occurred in the early hours of March 10 in the Jardim Roriz neighborhood of Brazil's Federal District.
According to the Metropoles news site, Alves's wife and mother-in-law left home to help the man living on the street. The two later separated, but Eduardo was unable to reach his wife, who did not answer her phone.
The sports trainer later found the car his wife had left home in next to an elementary school, and when he approached the vehicle, he was met with a shocking sight.
Security camera footage shows Alves beating the homeless man, who exited the vehicle, but Alves followed him and continued to beat him after bringing him back to the car.
His wife was seen lying on the ground outside the car in a distraught state following the incident.
In his statement to the police, Alves reportedly said that at first, he thought he was witnessing a rape through the windshield.
However, his unnamed wife told the police that her relationship with the man at that time was consensual. The woman stated that she enjoyed helping vulnerable people through the church she attended.
It is alleged that she later told a friend that she had received a "message from God" to help the homeless man she was caught with.
The homeless man was hospitalized with bruises and swelling around both eyes. It was reported that his recovery process was going well.
