The storm in the Marmara region negatively affected life! Disruptions occurred in maritime transportation.

30.09.2024 14:01

Due to the storm that affected the Sea of Marmara in the morning hours, there were disruptions in maritime transportation. On the route between Imralı Island and Çınarcık, the wind reached speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour in some areas, causing delays in some of İDO's services.

The heavy rain that started in the Marmara in the morning caused the cancellation of the Bursa Sea Buses Mudanya-Istanbul services. While fishermen and cargo ships anchored, the İDO Bursa-Armutlu-Istanbul morning service was able to operate with difficulty. On the line between İmralı Island and Çınarcık, winds were observed to reach speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour in places.

The Bursa Sea Buses operating from the Mudanya district of Bursa to the Istanbul Sirkeci port canceled all their services. Istanbul Sea Buses, on the other hand, managed to carry out the Bursa, Armutlu, Istanbul service at 08:30 with difficulty and a delay of 35 minutes. Those who were to depart with İDO's Ulubatlı Hasan sea bus were warned by the captain at the port in the morning. The captain, who informed that the sea was rough, requested that passengers with sensitivities not board the ship. The only ship operating in the sea was the Ulubatlı Hasan ferry. The experienced captain navigated the ship, which had 400 passengers, through waves exceeding 3 meters in places after Armutlu Bozburun, with minimal wave impact.

MANY STUDENTS WERE LATE FOR THEIR EDUCATION

The experienced captain steered the ship, which was swaying in the large waves, towards Büyükçekmece, approaching Yenikapı on a Z course by boarding the wind. There were those who vomited and fainted during the bumpy İDO journey. The captain requested assistance from a health officer or doctor for a passenger who was feeling unwell. On the first day of university openings, passengers traveling from Bursa to Istanbul who bought tickets from BUDO missed their first class, while those who traveled with İDO were able to reach their classes, albeit with a delay. It was stated that the partly cloudy weather in Marmara would continue on Tuesday, and the wind would lose its effect, while from Wednesday onwards, the weather would be sunny with temperatures around 29 degrees.
