On July 13, the body of Ayşe Tokyaz (22), found in a suitcase by the roadside in Küçükçekmece, Istanbul, has led to the arrest of former police officer Cemil Koç (38). It has come to light that an indictment has been prepared regarding the incident in which Ejegül Ovezova (29), who lived with Koç in a religious marriage in Diyarbakır, fell from the 8th floor and lost her life two years ago. The indictment, prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on July 4, states that Cemil Koç (38) pushed Ovezova from the 8th floor during an argument, resulting in her death, and requests that he be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of 'intentional murder against a woman.'
AYŞE TOKYAZ'S MURDER SUSPECT ARRESTED
Cemil Koç, who was detained in connection with the murder of university student Ayşe Tokyaz, whose body was found in a suitcase by the roadside in Eyüpsultan on July 13 after being killed, was arrested by the Magistrate's Court on charges of 'premeditated murder.' Six others who assisted him were also arrested for 'aiding in premeditated murder.'
HE WAS ALSO A MURDER SUSPECT IN HIS EX-WIFE'S DEATH
It has been revealed that Cemil Koç is also a murder suspect in the investigation regarding Ejegül Ovezova, who died after falling from the 8th floor of an apartment in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır on July 24, 2023. The indictment prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on July 4, 2025, stated that an examination was conducted at the house where the incident occurred, and blood-like stains were found on the floor and belongings, with most of the samples taken identified as belonging to the victim.
CEMIL KOÇ'S DNA FOUND UNDER HER NAILS
In his statement in the indictment, suspect Cemil Koç said that he was in the bathroom at the time of the incident, and when he heard a noise and went to the living room, he did not see Ovezova. He stated that he went downstairs and saw the woman lying face down on the ground and thought she might have committed suicide.
The indictment also included the report of the Forensic Medicine Institution, indicating that the mixed genotypes obtained from the blood samples taken from the victim Ejegul Ovezova and suspect Cemil Koç were found in the swab sample taken from under the victim's nails. This situation indicates that there was a struggle between them, and it was noted that Koç caused her death by pushing her out of the window, providing sufficient suspicion to warrant the opening of a public case against him for the crime of intentional murder.
The indictment stated that blood traces found in the living room of the house, on the quilt inside the washing machine, and on the edge of the mattress were determined to belong to the victim. However, it was expressed that a direct link could not be established between the blood stains in the house and the death due to the absence of any wounds or cuts on the victim's body. However, when evaluated together with the DNA sample from under the nails, it was stated that sufficient suspicion was formed regarding the suspect's act of killing the woman, and it was requested that Cemil Koç be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment under Article 82/1-f of the Turkish Penal Code for 'intentional murder against a woman.'
