Last year, an incident that occurred in the middle of the street during the day in Diyarbakır caused a great public outcry. The defendant, who was accused of trying to forcibly take a 9-year-old child, was stopped by the intervention of local shopkeepers, and the investigation initiated after the incident was brought to court. The court sentenced the defendant to 3 years and 9 months in prison. However, the defendant, who stated, "I had psychological issues. I regret it," was released considering the time spent in prison.
Gökhan Kıratlı (29), who was arrested on the charge of attempting to kidnap 9-year-old H.A. in Diyarbakır, was sentenced to 3 years and 9 months in prison in the trial he was being prosecuted. The court decided to release the defendant, taking into account the time he spent in prison.
ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING IN BROAD DAYLIGHT
The incident occurred on August 27 of last year in the afternoon on Lise 1st Street in the Yenişehir neighborhood. According to the allegations, Kıratlı tried to forcibly take the small child he held by his t-shirt. At that moment, the child's cries of "Brother, save me" attracted the attention of nearby shopkeepers.
SHOPKEEPERS INTERVENED
Ahmet Aslan (42), who sells construction materials, intervened in the situation and stopped the suspect. While the child escaped from Kıratlı's grip, police teams were dispatched to the scene upon the reports of those nearby.
CAUGHT IN THE MOSQUE GARDEN
Teams from the Gasp Bureau of the Public Order Branch Directorate identified the fleeing suspect as Gökhan Kıratlı. As a result of the operations, Kıratlı was caught and arrested in the garden of a mosque in the Bağcılar neighborhood of the Bağlar district.
PROSECUTION SOUGHT UP TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON
The indictment prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was accepted by the 26th Criminal Court of First Instance. A case was opened against the defendant for the crime of "attempting to deprive a person of their liberty by using force, threat, or deception against a child," with a request for a prison sentence of 1 year to 10 years and 6 months.
During the verdict hearing, the detained defendant Gökhan Kıratlı and the lawyers of the parties were present, while the victim child and their family did not attend the hearing. The court stated that the report requested regarding the defendant's mental health had been included in the file and that it was determined that he could not benefit from the relevant articles according to the report.
In his defense, the defendant stated, "I had no intention of killing or harassing. I had psychological problems. I regret it," and requested release.
COURT DECISION FOR RELEASE
The court panel sentenced Kıratlı to 3 years and 9 months in prison on the grounds that the crime was established. Considering the time the defendant had been detained, it was ruled for his release.
