As part of the operation carried out by the police teams under the instructions of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a suspect named M.G.Ş., a citizen of Azerbaijan, was stopped while traveling by taxi in front of a shopping mall in Sarıyer. 70 KILOS OF GOLD FOUNDIt was determined that 70 kilograms of gold was found on the stopped suspect M.G.Ş. as a result of the search conducted on him. HE SAID HE WAS A DIPLOMATIt was learned that the suspect M.G.Ş. claimed that the products in question belonged to him and also stated to the teams that he was a diplomat. It was also learned that legal proceedings regarding the matter are ongoing. STATEMENT FROM THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICEA statement was made by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident. The statement noted that M.G.Ş., a citizen of Azerbaijan, who claimed that the gold belonged to him, also stated that he was a diplomat and that legal proceedings were ongoing. The statement from the Prosecutor's Office is as follows: "In the operation carried out by the teams of the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Department under the instructions of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that 70 kilograms of gold was found as a result of a preventive search conducted on an individual stopped in front of Vadi Istanbul in Sarıyer. It was understood that the individual, who claimed that the products belonged to him, was M.G.Ş., a citizen of Azerbaijan, and he also stated to our officials that he was a diplomat. Necessary legal proceedings are ongoing under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office."
