The indictment states that the young woman was strangled to death with a scarf by her husband, and DNA samples belonging to the wife were found on the scarf.

DNA FOUND ON THE SCARF

The İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office completed its investigation against the husband I.T. (33) regarding the death of 26-year-old Havin Aşkın T., who was found dead at home on December 24, 2024.

The indictment stated that the victim Havin Aşkın T. and the defendant had been married for approximately 6 years and that there was a dispute between the parties on the day of the incident. It was assessed in the indictment that "during the struggle that ensued during the argument, the victim was strangled with a scarf and lost her life, and that the defendant later acted to make the incident appear as a suicide."

The indictment reported that DNA samples belonging to the defendant were found on the scarf used in the incident and in the nail samples belonging to the victim, and it was noted that the report prepared by the İzmir Forensic Medicine Institution on June 26, 2025, found that the death was not consistent with suicide.

DENIED THE ALLEGATIONS

The defendant I.T., whose statement was included in the indictment, claimed that he married his wife out of love, that there were no serious problems in their marriage, that his wife had experienced psychological issues in the past, and that she exhibited suicidal behavior.

I.T. stated that on the night of the incident, his wife wanted to go to bed early due to a headache, and in the morning he found her hanging from the doorknob with a scarf, immediately intervened, and called the 112 Emergency Service. He denied the allegations that he killed his wife.

REQUEST FOR AGGRAVATED LIFE IMPRISONMENT

The indictment prepared against the defendant I.T., who is not in custody, for the crime of "intentionally killing his wife," was accepted by the İzmir 23rd High Criminal Court.
