The third hearing of the Newborn Gang case, which has caused a public outcry, is continuing on its third day. The trial, in which 46 defendants are being prosecuted, has started at the Bakırköy 22nd High Criminal Court.
The third hearing of the Newborn Gang case, which has caused unjust profits by transferring emergency patients in Istanbul to contracted hospitals and has led to their deaths due to negligent behavior, continues on the third day. The trial is being held at the Bakırköy 22nd High Criminal Court, where 46 defendants, including the gang leader and members, are being tried.
HEARING HAS STARTED
The hearing began with the attendance of some detained and non-detained defendants, as well as the lawyers of the parties, with the roll call of the defendants. The hearing continues with the statements of the defendants' lawyers.
3-YEAR SUSPENSION FROM PROFESSION
With the decision of the Health Professions Board of the Ministry of Health, doctors, nurses, and technicians being tried in the Newborn case have been suspended from their profession for 3 years. The maximum penalty was notified to 34 individuals.
REQUESTED PENALTIES
In the indictment, a total prison sentence of 177 years and 6 months to 582 years and 9 months is requested for the suspect Fırat Sarı for committing intentional murder through negligent behavior 10 times, qualified fraud, establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime, and forgery of official documents 11 times. For Gıyasettin Mert Özdemir, a prison sentence of 180 years to 589 years and 9 months is requested for committing intentional murder through negligent behavior, unlawful acquisition of personal data, fraud to the detriment of public institutions and organizations, establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime, and forgery of official documents.
In the indictment, which foresees prison sentences for other suspects for similar crimes, it is also requested that security measures specific to legal entities be applied, as fraud was committed to obtain financial benefits for the hospitals and the companies to which they are affiliated, and that the hospitals and companies be closed and their assets seized.
