A fire broke out in an apartment on the 2nd floor of a 10-story building in the TOKİ housing complex in the Central Kardelen Neighborhood of Batman for an unknown reason in the evening hours.
THE BALANCE OF THE FIRE IS SEVERE
Upon notification, fire, health, and police teams were dispatched to the scene. The fire was brought under control and extinguished by the teams' intervention. It was determined that bedridden patient Abdulmenaf Görnü lost his life in the fire, while 14 people affected by smoke were evacuated from the apartment. Görnü's body was taken to the morgue of Batman Training and Research Hospital for autopsy. Those affected by smoke were treated on an outpatient basis.
AN INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN INITIATED
Provincial Police Chief İbrahim Kaba and Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Senior Colonel Ekrem Doğan also arrived at the scene to conduct investigations. According to initial determinations, it was stated that the fire started from sparks caused by a short circuit in the lamp in the children's room igniting the blankets. An investigation has been initiated regarding the incident.
