A new development has occurred in the investigation where a detention order was issued for 7 people, including Sezgin Baran Korkmaz. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) has been appointed as the trustee for the Paramount Hotel in Bodrum as part of the investigation.
The investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's Smuggling, Narcotics, and Economic Crimes Investigation Bureau regarding the crimes of "establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime," "usury," and "money laundering of assets derived from crime" is ongoing.
INVESTIGATION AGAINST SEZGİN BARAN KORKMAZ AND 6 OTHERS
As part of the investigation, detention orders were issued for Sezgin Baran Korkmaz, Cihan Ekşioğlu, Çağlar Şendil, Melike Yüksel, Sinan Görkem Gökçe, Şaban Kayıkçı, and Alpan Keskin. In the operation carried out by the teams, suspects Ekşioğlu, Kayıkçı, Şendil, Yüksel, and Gökçe were detained.
In the investigation where Ufuk Tourism Enterprises Inc. is the complainant, it was determined that the suspects indebted this company by taking advantage of its bankruptcy, and that they provided the debt to the complainant company by charging interest for the companies they managed in 2019 and afterwards.
It was also determined that the suspects acquired the upper right of The Plaza Bodrum (formerly Jumeirah Hotel, Paramount Hotel, Be Premium Hotel) located in Bodrum, Muğla, which the complainant company holds, and that Cihan Ekşioğlu and Şaban Kayıkçı operated the hotel together.
A TRUSTEE HAS BEEN APPOINTED TO THE LUXURY HOTEL
A new development has occurred in the investigation. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that a trustee has been appointed to the Paramount Hotel. The statement included the following: "The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's Smuggling, Narcotics, and Economic Crimes Investigation Bureau has determined that the suspects Sezgin Baran KORKMAZ, Cihan EKŞİOĞLU, Çağlar ŞENDİL, Melike YÜKSEL, Sinan Görkem GÖKÇE, Şaban KAYIKÇI, and Alpan Keskin have indebted the complainant Ufuk Tourism Enterprises Inc. by taking advantage of the complainant's bankruptcy in 2019 and thereafter to the companies they managed, and that they provided this debt to the complainant company by charging interest. Additionally, it was found that they acquired the upper right of the hotel currently named The Plaza Bodrum (formerly Jumeirah Hotel, Paramount Hotel, Be Premium Hotel) located in the Torba district of Bodrum, Muğla, which the complainant company holds, and that suspect Cihan Ekşioğlu and suspect Şaban Kayıkçı acted together to operate the hotel with the upper right; under the investigation conducted for the crimes of Establishing an Organization for the Purpose of Committing a Crime, Usury, and Money Laundering of Assets Derived from Crime;
The upper right of the hotel named The Plaza Bodrum, located at 111 Ada 1 parcel in the Torba neighborhood of Bodrum, Muğla, registered in the name of Bodrum Hotel Enterprises Inc., of which Şaban KAYIKCI is the authorized representative, has been seized, and it has also been decided to appoint the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) as a trustee for Bodrum Hotel Enterprises Inc. In accordance with Article 133 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the investigation is being conducted meticulously while maintaining confidentiality. It is respectfully announced to the public."
