A mother, who is on trial for allegedly strangling her daughter in Samsun, appeared before the judge for the first time. The detained defendant stated that she lost control after her daughter attacked her and, realizing that her daughter was dead, she cut her wrists "to make it look like a suicide."
The trial of the mother who strangled her teacher daughter in Samsun has begun. The detained mother, appearing before the judge for the first time, stated that her daughter attacked her and that after strangling her, she cut her wrists to make it look like a suicide.
MOTHER STRANGLED HER TEACHER DAUGHTER
The incident occurred on April 8, 2025, in the Esenevler neighborhood of the Atakum district. According to the information obtained, Tuba G. (34), a guidance teacher whose brother was martyred in Hakkari in 2021, divorced her husband in 2022 due to psychological issues. Tuba G., who was appointed to Samsun İlkadım Sakarya Primary School under the quota for relatives of martyrs, began living with her mother S.G. (61) after experiencing vision problems and partial paralysis.
On the night of the incident, S.G. cried out to her neighbors, reporting that her daughter was lying motionless in the bathroom with her wrists cut. Initially, the incident was treated as a suspected suicide, but when the autopsy report revealed neck fractures due to strangulation, it was determined to be a murder.
MOTHER CONFESSED HER CRIME DURING INTERROGATION
The mother, who confessed her crime during the interrogation, said: "My daughter Tuba got married in 2020 and divorced her husband two years later. After the divorce, her psychological problems continued to worsen. She was still in contact with her ex-husband over the phone. After the earthquake, we came from Malatya to Samsun. After staying for a while, my husband and I returned to Malatya. My daughter started working at a private college here. Later, she transitioned from a private school to a permanent teaching position at a public school. She benefited from the rights granted because her brother was a martyr. My daughter had a problem with her eye. During her treatment, she also suffered a heart attack.
"HER PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS INCREASED DUE TO THE ILLNESSES SHE EXPERIENCED"
Due to the illnesses she experienced, she lost sensation on the left side of her body. She could use her left arm. She could walk alone by wearing a special shoe on her left foot and using the edges for support. My daughter's psychological problems began to worsen significantly due to the illnesses she experienced. When she was treated at the university hospital, a psychologist had prescribed her medication. She did not take her medication.
"IN A MOMENT OF EXCITEMENT, I ATTACKED MY DAUGHTER'S THROAT"
She did not receive any treatment for her psychological disorder. About 15 days ago, she attacked me. She could not accept that the left side of her body was not functioning. She attacked me, saying, 'You are healthy, why am I like this?' On the night of the incident, around 2:00 AM, while I was resting, my daughter called out to me. I saw that the bathroom light was on. When I went to the bathroom, my daughter attacked me again. When I pushed her to get away from her grip, she fell and hit her head on the bathroom floor. While she was on the ground, she continued to attack me. I knelt on her shoulders, but she kept attacking. In a moment of excitement, I grabbed my daughter's throat.
"I CUT MY DAUGHTER'S WRISTS TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A SUICIDE"
I don't remember exactly how long it lasted. However, I held her by the throat for 1-2 minutes. When I came to my senses, I realized that my daughter was not breathing. I understood that she was dead. My daughter had previously told me that she would commit suicide. This came to my mind. I went to the kitchen, took a knife, and cut my daughter's wrists to make it look like a 'suicide.' Later, when I screamed, our neighbors came and called the police."
FIRST TIME APPEARED BEFORE THE JUDGE
The mother, who was arrested and sent to prison by the court she was brought before, was charged. In the indictment prepared by the prosecutor conducting the investigation, an aggravated prison sentence was requested for S.G. under Article 82/1-d-f-e.2 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK). A case was opened against S.G. at the Samsun 1st Heavy Penal Court. In the first hearing of the case held today, S.G., who participated via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS) from the prison where she was detained, defended herself by saying, "My daughter attacked me in the bathroom, and I pushed her, she fell. She continued to attack me. I lost control when my hands were around her neck. My daughter had previously said she would commit suicide. When she died, I cut her wrists to make it look like a 'suicide.' When she hit me in the bathroom, I hit the side of my head and my shoulder against the wall. I pushed her to protect myself; I don't remember anything after that."
It was learned that S.G. was undergoing cancer treatment, and the decision was made to continue her detention, while the hearing was postponed to a later date for witness testimonies.
