A 30-year-old British tourist in Pattaya, Thailand's famous holiday destination, shot himself while playing Russian Roulette after using drugs. The incident occurred in the hotel room where the tourist was staying.
According to the account of the tourist's friend who was present at the scene, the young man suggested playing Russian Roulette while under the influence of various drugs. His friend refused to participate in the dangerous game and retreated to bed. Shortly after, he heard the sound of an empty trigger being pulled, followed by the gun firing.
The friend said, "When I burst out of my room, I found him lying on the floor in a pool of blood. I immediately shouted for help from the security guard."
Russian Roulette is a dangerous game of chance that involves placing a single bullet in a revolver, spinning the cylinder, and pulling the trigger while pointing the gun at one's head. The British tourist was lucky on his first attempt, and the gun did not fire. However, on his second attempt, the bullet struck him.
Emergency medical teams that arrived at the scene immediately transported the critically injured tourist to a nearby hospital. His condition is reported to still be critical.
Captain Pansan Klongsit from the Pattaya Police Station stated, "We found marijuana, a laughing gas canister, used balloons, a gun, and an empty bullet casing in the hotel room. We are collecting evidence with the Chonburi forensic police team."
The police are waiting for the tourist to regain consciousness to learn exactly how the incident occurred. They are also investigating how the firearm was obtained.
A spokesperson for the British Foreign Office said regarding the matter: "We are providing support to our citizen who has been hospitalized in Thailand and are in contact with local authorities."
Pattaya is known as a holiday destination famous for its entertainment and nightlife. Incidents involving tourists under the influence of drugs frequently occur in this area. Last December, a 55-year-old female tourist was arrested for causing a disturbance while under the influence of drugs.
