According to information obtained by Yeni Şafak, the AK Party is preparing to submit a new bill for amendments to the Highway Traffic Law in the coming days. Within the scope of reports and impact analyses prepared by the Ministry of Interior, the causes of traffic accidents that occurred in the last two years were examined. In the 200-article law, it was deemed appropriate to make changes in 32 articles. According to the information obtained, traffic fines will be increased proportionally by 100 to 200 percent. Penalties for red light and speeding violations will be made deterrent. In this context, drivers who are found to have violated the red light rule three times within a year will have their licenses suspended for 3 months. Those who violate the red light rule for the second time three times within the same year will have their licenses suspended for 135 days, and those who commit the same offense three times within a year will have their driving licenses suspended for 180 days. The penalty for those who commit the offense of exceeding speed limits more than 5 times by more than 30% within a year will be increased from 1 year to 3 years of license suspension.



DRIVERS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL WILL FACE CONSEQUENCES



Drivers under the influence of alcohol will have their licenses suspended for at least one year. The penalty for drivers found to be driving with a blood alcohol level above 0.50, which currently results in a 6-month license suspension, will be increased to 1 year. There is also a proposal to double this penalty, which has a maximum suspension period of 5 years. The suspension period for drivers found to have consumed drugs or stimulants is also on the agenda to be increased from 5 years to 10 years.



DRIVERS OVER 65 WITHOUT ADEQUATE CAPACITY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE ROAD



The conditions for obtaining a driver's license will also be changed. Traffic accidents caused by elderly drivers will be evaluated in this context. It is also on the agenda to permanently ban citizens over the age of 65 from traffic if they do not meet certain conditions. Drivers over 65 who do not have physical and psychological adequacy will not be allowed on the road. Every driver over 65 will undergo these tests once a year.
