Erkan Ö., who took a sports car left at a car wash where he worked in Burdur without permission and caused approximately 150,000 lira in damages by drifting, was sentenced to 3 years, 1 month, and 15 days in prison in the trial he faced.
Burdur Modified Car Enthusiasts Club President Şahin Kondu claimed that his sports car, worth approximately 2 million lira, which he left for washing on September 23, 2024, was taken without permission by a car wash employee, resulting in a damage of 150,000 lira due to speed testing and drifting.
HE DROVE AROUND FOR 3 HOURS AND PARKED IT
When Kondu received his vehicle back, he noticed it was making different sounds and was not moving. Upon reviewing the security cameras with municipal officials, he saw that a staff member took the vehicle around 00:30 on the night of the incident, causing damage by drifting until 04:00, after which it was parked. Following Kondu's complaint, a lawsuit was filed against the car wash employee Erkan Ö.
DECISION HEARING WAS HELD
In the trial at Burdur 3rd Criminal Court, where Erkan Ö. was tried without detention, a decision was made. In the decision hearing, which the defendant did not attend, the lawyers of both parties and Şahin Kondu were present. Kondu and his lawyer requested the defendant's punishment, while the lawyer of the defendant Erkan Ö. requested acquittal. The court panel sentenced Erkan Ö. to 5 years in prison for the crime of 'theft of property kept in a building,' considering the manner of the crime, the importance and value of the subject matter, and the severity of the damage caused, along with the defendant's fault status. The court panel first increased this sentence by half to 7 years and 6 months, then ruled to reduce it to 3 years, 1 month, and 15 days, leaving the way open for appeal.
