The decrease in water levels in the dams in Edirne and the old age of the dam used as an alternative source have caused water shortages in some areas of the city, frustrating the residents. One of the citizens, who filled containers with water by queuing in front of the fountains in the Yıldırım Beyazıt neighborhood, said, "It has been raining for days. It's as if we were told, 'There is no water for you in rainy weather.'"

Due to extreme heat and insufficient rainfall in Edirne, the water level at the Kayalıköy Dam, which supplies drinking water, has decreased, and the municipality recently stopped taking water from there. The municipality has started to take water from the Süloğlu Dam as an alternative source. Due to leaks in the old line, water shortages have begun to occur in some areas of the city. Edirne Mayor Filiz Gencan stated two days ago at the municipal council meeting that due to the old condition of the line, there have been leaks in some lines when the pressure rises, and there may be water shortages.
CITIZENS QUEUED IN FRONT OF FOUNTAINS
In the Yıldırım Beyazıt neighborhood, where water shortages have been experienced for two days, citizens have started to queue in front of fountains to fill pet bottles and jugs to take home.
"THE PEOPLE ARE CARRYING WATER FROM THE PLACE WHERE DOGS DRINK"
Orçun Utan, one of the residents, said, "Our water has been cut off for two days, we are calling the municipality but we cannot reach them in any way. We are calling other departments, asking for guidance, but no guidance is provided. We are not informed about when the water will come. It has been raining for days, and we were almost told 'there's no water for you on a rainy day.' I want to address Mayor Filiz Gencan from here; I wish they would show the same interest in our neighborhood as they do in other neighborhoods. We are being neglected because we are a peripheral neighborhood, we are not given importance, and we are not being cared for. Promises are made but not kept. People are carrying water from here, where dogs and cats drink, to their homes. If they really have a conscience, I don't want to say anything else. This is a great shame for Edirne Municipality," he said.
"WE HAVE EXPERIENCED SHORTAGES BEFORE"
Resident Salim Umut also stated, "We have experienced water shortages before, but this time it has been very long. Our water was cut off two days ago, and we have had no water since that day. We are meeting all our needs with water we carry. It hasn't rained, so there is no water in the dams. I don't want to blame anyone. I spoke with the mayor, and he said there would be problems for 3-5 days. We are trying to manage," he said.
STUDENTS PROTEST "HOT WATER"
Meanwhile, due to the water shortage in the city, students in a dormitory in the Kurtuluş neighborhood stated that they could not access hot water due to the decrease in water in the tanks last night and staged a protest. Students chanting slogans from their dorm rooms later went down to the garden to continue their protests. The students invited Edirne Mayor Filiz Gencan to the dormitory and chanted slogans against the municipality due to the shortages. Provincial Police Chief Muhittin Ayhan and Youth and Sports Director Selim Ak met with the students during the protest. After the protest, teams from the Edirne Governorship Provincial Special Administration and Edirne Municipality started working to fill the tanks by transporting water to the dormitory with tankers.
