The world-famous thermos brand has been forced to recall approximately 3 million products after 38 people were injured during the opening of the lid. It is reported that the outer design of the thermos is faulty.
The world-famous portable beverage brand Stanley is in trouble. The renowned brand has decided to recall 2.6 million travel mugs worldwide due to unexpected openings of their thermos lids, which have caused injuries.
38 BURN CASES
The company announced that it has received 91 complaints worldwide regarding the defective Stanley and Trigger Action models, 16 of which came from the United States. The complaints indicated that the thermos lids detached during use, resulting in 38 individuals suffering burn injuries. Of these individuals, 11 required medical intervention.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) stated that the affected thermos models have faulty threading that causes the lids to loosen and detach under heat and pressure.
"STOP USING" WARNING
According to a report in Sözcü, the CPSC announced that users should immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Stanley to request free replacement lids.
THE BRAND'S PAST ISSUES
Chinese-made thermoses stand out with various color and size options, and their lids are made from a heat-resistant thermoplastic called polypropylene. These models, sold at retail giants like Walmart, Target, and Amazon for prices ranging from $20 to $50 between June 2016 and December 2024, have become particularly popular among Generation Z.
Although Stanley is a well-established brand founded in 1913, it admitted earlier this year that small amounts of lead were found in its cups, leading to numerous lawsuits. In one of the lawsuits, it was claimed that the company failed to warn consumers that one of the main components of its vacuum seal contained lead, and $70 million in damages was sought.
