In Adana, a young man who argued with a woman claiming to be a doctor in traffic and faced accusations such as "harasser" and "rapist" said, "I learned that the woman is a pediatrician. It is very bad to slander such a sacred profession as medicine. Calling someone a 'harasser' or 'rapist' is very wrong." The Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued a decision of no grounds for prosecution regarding the incident.
A young man who flashed his headlights in traffic in Adana was subjected to harassment and rape accusations by a woman claiming to be a doctor. While the prosecutor's office decided not to pursue the case, the young man stated that the profession was slandered.
WOMAN DOCTOR, HURLED INSULTS
The incident occurred last December on Hekimköy Boulevard in the central Sarıçam district. Haluk Emre Tetik (26), who was driving in traffic, flashed his headlights at a vehicle with license plate 01 DOM 85 to ask for way. This angered the driver, doctor M.M., who works as a Pediatrics Specialist, and she began arguing with Tetik. When insulted, Haluk Emre Tetik recorded the moments with his mobile phone.
"YOU'RE A WORTHLESS MAN"
In the argument, M.M., claiming to be a doctor, cursed at the man recording her with his phone and insulted him, saying, "Who the hell are you? Who are you harassing? This man harassed me. I'm a doctor. He's flashing his headlights in traffic, harassing me. Pervert. You're a worthless man? You're a company, you company. I got your plate. Does your power match up to mine? You're a company man, I'll see you."
The woman doctor then shouted, "He harassed me, they're raping me."
After these tragicomic moments in traffic, Haluk Emre Tetik went to the prosecutor's office and filed a complaint against the woman doctor. However, the Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office decided there was no grounds for prosecution.
Following the decision, Tetik shared the video on social media, and millions of people supported Tetik.
"CALLING SOMEONE A HARASSER IS VERY TERRIBLE"
Haluk Emre Tetik, describing his experience to the Ihlas News Agency (İHA), said, "Before the incident, the woman was driving in the left lane at 30-40 km/h, and I flashed my headlights to ask for way. Then she got angry, cut me off, got out of her car, and banged on my window. I couldn't record at that moment, but what happened at the next traffic lights surfaced. She introduced herself as a doctor. I later learned she is a pediatrician. It's very bad to slander such a sacred profession as medicine. If I hadn't had the camera in my hand, I don't know what my situation would be now. Calling someone a harasser or rapist is, I think, very wrong."
Speaking about the judicial process, Tetik said, "After the incident, I filed a complaint, and the prosecutor's office decided there was no grounds for prosecution. I will appeal again. After the decision, I shared the video on social media. People gave me very positive responses. We understood how important camera recording is."
