A week has passed since a 5-year-old child was detained along with his father during an ICE operation in Minnesota, USA. While reactions continue, a US official who visited the child reported that the child is depressed, spends most of the day sleeping, has lost his appetite, and keeps asking when he will return to school.
5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramosa has been in custody for a week along with his father Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias in an operation by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the state of Minnesota, USA. While reactions continue, officials who met with the father and son, sent to an immigration detention center in Texas, reported that the child is very unhappy, spends most of the day sleeping, and constantly asks when he will go to school.
"HE HAS LOST HIS APPETITE, ASKING IF HE WILL BE ABLE TO RETURN TO SCHOOL"
According to a report by MS Now; U.S. Representative Joaquin Castro stated that he spoke with father Conejo Arias, expressing that little Liam has been seriously affected by the detention process.
According to Castro, the father said that his son has been experiencing deep depression in recent days, has lost his appetite, and constantly asks if he will be able to return to school. Representative Castro emphasized that it is unacceptable for a child to be held under these conditions, drawing attention to the impact of immigration practices on children's psychology.
"HE SPENDS MOST OF THE DAY SLEEPING"
At a meeting held on Wednesday night, Castro said he is increasingly concerned about Liam's situation. Castro stated, "I am worried about him because he was constantly sleeping during the time we were together. His father says he spends a large part of the day sleeping due to his depression, is not eating properly, and misses his mother, classmates, and school."

Castro noted that what is happening is not limited to this family, stating that holding children in detention centers is a serious human rights issue, and called on officials to release the child.
