A female university student in Tehran, the capital of Iran, was detained by Iranian police after she stripped off her clothes on campus to protest mandatory hijab and dress codes. A spokesperson for the Iranian judiciary stated that the woman was treated in a hospital and has been handed over to her family.

According to a report by the BBC, Daryaei's arrest has been condemned internationally, and Amnesty International was among those calling for her immediate and unconditional release. Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir said, "She was handed over to her family because she was sent to the hospital and it was understood that she was ill... and no legal case has been opened against her." Iranian officials had stated that Daryaei was "ill" and had been taken to a psychiatric ward.
