The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry updated the list exposing food fraudsters as of June 18. While fraud was detected in many basic foods from dairy products to olive oil, horse and donkey meat was found in products from two companies in Gaziantep and Mersin.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is resolutely continuing its war against companies that endanger public health and abuse citizens' trust. The ministry, which maintains uninterrupted inspections across Turkey, continues to expose brands where non-compliance is detected. The 'food fraudsters' list, updated on June 18, once again revealed the extent of the danger in food.
THE LIST HAS IT ALL
The ministry shares fraudulent products with the public on its website in two categories: 'Foods That Endanger Health' and 'Foods Subject to Adulteration or Misbranding.' In the updated list, irregularities in basic food items most commonly consumed in daily life attracted attention.
The product groups found to be fraudulent as a result of the ministry's inspections are as follows:
- Milk and Dairy Products: Butter, yogurt, kashar cheese, and ayran.
- Meat and Meat Products: Sucuk, meatballs, Adana kebab, minced meat, and roasted meat.
- Other Basic Foods: Olive oil, honey, spices, and stuffed meatballs (icli kofte).
ANOTHER HORSE AND DONKEY MEAT SCANDAL!
The most striking and controversial part of the announced list was that citizens were once again fed horse and donkey meat. Laboratory analyses revealed scandalous findings in the products of two separate companies operating in Gaziantep and Mersin. In the samples of stuffed meatballs and beef roasted meat produced by companies serving in these cities, 'solid-hoofed' (horse, donkey, mule) animal meat, completely contrary to regulations, was detected. Ministry officials stated that administrative fines have been imposed and criminal complaints have been filed against these companies that tamper with public health, and that inspections will continue with a zero-tolerance policy.
COMPANIES EXPOSED
- Horse and donkey meat was detected in the stuffed meatballs of the business named 'Löp Löp Gıda' operating in Gaziantep's Şehitkamil district.
- Horse and donkey meat was also detected in the roasted meat of the catering company 'Öz Şamedan' operating in Mersin's Toroslar district.
