The claim that a homeless person was stoned by the congregation after seeking refuge in a mosque in Antalya has been proven to be unfounded. It has been revealed that the individual, who is known to be a drug addict, threatened the muezzin and the congregation with a knife and did not allow himself to be admitted into the mosque, which led to the subsequent outbreak of events.
In a post made on social media platform X, it was claimed that a homeless person in Antalya was stoned by the congregation when he sought refuge in a mosque. The post, which received thousands of views, included the statement, "Antalya. A homeless citizen was stoned and chased away by the mosque congregation when he tried to seek refuge in the mosque."
As a result of the investigations, it was understood that the incident claimed in the post was not accurately reported. On the evening of Thursday, November 21, the incident, which was determined to have occurred at Demirgül Mosque in the Düdenbaşı neighborhood of Kepez district in Antalya, unfolded as follows; Y.G., a 35-year-old alleged drug addict, entered Demirgül Mosque during prayer time. Y.G., who had a knife in hand, chased the muezzin away with a stick and broke the glass at the mosque door. Y.G. threatened the muezzin and the congregation with a knife and did not allow them to enter the mosque.
The moment the individual broke the glass at the mosque door STARTED TO FLEE WHILE WAITING FOR THE POLICE The congregation took Y.G. outside and called the police. While waiting for the police to arrive, Y.G. began to flee. For about 2 kilometers, Y.G. and the congregation threw stones and bricks at each other by the roadside, while some members of the congregation continued the chase with sticks and hooks in hand.
ARRESTED Y.G., who was detained by the Antalya Police Department teams, was brought before a judge after his procedures at the police station and was arrested and sent to prison.
