In the context of the discount campaign for November 11, online websites are competing with each other to increase their sales under the names "11.11 November Discounts," "11.11 Discounts," and "11.11 Super Shopping Days." Consumers looking to seize this opportunity online may sometimes encounter deceptive and misleading advertisements.
HAS THE CAMPAIGN GONE TOO FAR?
On an online shopping site, the campaign for the 11.11 discounts has gone too far this time. A shoe that was shown to cost 1 million 88 thousand lira was presented as if its price had been reduced by 99% to 13 thousand 415 lira.
"REPORT TO ALO 175 CONSUMER COMPLAINT LINE"
The President of the Consumer Confederation (TÜKONFED), Aydın Ağaoğlu, stated that this falls under misleading advertisements and unfair commercial practices. Ağaoğlu, who urged those encountering such exaggerated situations to report to the alo 175 consumer complaint line, said, "Additionally, if reported to the Advertising Board via the internet, the Ministry of Commerce will conduct the necessary investigation and impose the required sanctions regarding deceptive advertisements."
Ağaoğlu pointed out that the discounts generally applied in the country are deceptive and misleading, stating, "They first inflate the prices and then reduce them. According to legal regulations, discounts can only be made from the lowest price applied in the last 10 days. If the consumer purchases the product in this situation, the seller is obliged to prove the price before the discount. Otherwise, the consumer can get back the amount corresponding to the discount rate of the price paid," he said.
"THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE WARNED THOSE WHO MAKE MISLEADING ADVERTISEMENTS"
Ağaoğlu reminded that the Ministry of Commerce has drawn attention to the November 11 discounts, stating, "It warned those who make misleading advertisements and called on consumers to be cautious. He urged consumers to report suspicious situations."
