U.S. President Donald Trump said in a phone interview with Fox News that he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
HARSH WORDS FOR NETANYAHU: HE HAS NO JUDGMENT
According to the channel's reporter, Trump, referring to Israel's attack on Beirut, said of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, "Why did Bibi have to carry out such a damn attack? I got very angry. I told him that. He has no judgment."
HE ALSO CURSED HIM TO HIS FACE
Trump also stated that during his meeting with Netanyahu, he told him "What the f*** do you think you are doing?" and noted that he asked him not to carry out any more attacks on Hezbollah, so as not to prevent a deal.
"THE DEAL WILL BE SIGNED IN 2-3 HOURS"
Meanwhile, regarding the memorandum of understanding planned to be signed with Iran today, Trump said, "We were supposed to sign the agreement this morning, but the Israeli attack in Beirut delayed it. I think the signing ceremony will take place today, within the next few hours." Trump also stated that he believes the agreement with Iran will be signed electronically within 2-3 hours, and in person somewhere in Europe next week.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Israel attacked Lebanon again on days when a deal to end the war between the U.S. and Iran was being discussed. The Israeli army bombed the Dahiyeh district in southern Beirut, Lebanon, without prior warning despite a ceasefire. Two explosions were heard in the area, and smoke rose from the targeted points. According to Lebanon's official news agency NNA, an apartment in the Ghobeiry neighborhood of Dahiyeh was targeted in the attack, killing 3 people and injuring 15. The attack caused material damage to surrounding buildings.
TRUMP'S REACTION TO ISRAEL: IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED
U.S. President Donald Trump, in his first statement following Israel's attack, reacted to the Tel Aviv administration. Trump argued that an opportunity for lasting peace had emerged in the region and emphasized that all parties should avoid steps that would increase tension.
Trump said, "The attack on Beirut this morning should never have happened, especially on this particular day when we are so close to a peace agreement with Iran," adding that the attack should not disrupt this important process. Trump stated, "We are very close to an agreement that will bring peace to the region, including Lebanon, and all parties must step back. There should be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon, but there should also be no more attacks against Israel by other parties, including Hezbollah. This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace. Let's not ruin it."
IRAN: NEGOTIATIONS COULD STOP IF ISRAEL'S ATTACKS CONTINUE
Iranian Parliament Speaker and Head of the Negotiating Team Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf reacted to the U.S., stating, "Israel's attack on southern Beirut shows that the U.S. either lacks the will to fulfill its commitments or the ability to do so." Ghalibaf noted that the "bad cop good cop" game is outdated and warned that the negotiation process could stop, saying, "If you do not have the will and capacity to fulfill your commitments, it is not possible to talk about the continuation of the (negotiation) process."
"WE WILL RESPOND STRONGLY"
Ibrahim Azizi, Head of Iran's Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, stated that they will give a "strong" response to Israel's attack on the Dahiyeh district of Beirut. Azizi, who said the attack "proves that the U.S. is unreliable and weak," threatened that they would give a "strong response" to the attack.
