The decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to eliminate tax incentives for electric vehicles and relax emission standards has put the industry in a difficult position. Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has decided to lay off hundreds of employees in its sales and service divisions.
US-based electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian Automotive Inc. has decided to lay off approximately 600 employees in its sales and service units.
WILL LAY OFF 4% OF PERSONNEL
According to a report by Reuters, this move by the company, which employs around 15,000 people by the end of the year, corresponds to 4% of its total workforce. Company officials have refrained from making a statement regarding the matter.
TRUMP'S REMOVAL OF TAX INCENTIVES HAS HAD AN IMPACT
Experts suggest that the layoffs are due to uncertainties in the electric vehicle market in the US. The recent removal of tax incentives for electric vehicles and the relaxation of emission standards by the Donald Trump administration have reduced demand in the sector. This situation has forced new-generation manufacturers like Rivian to implement cost-cutting measures.
In August, Rivian had also decided to reduce 1.5% of its workforce. The company's latest move is seen as part of a strategy to lower costs and maintain its presence in an increasingly competitive market.
