U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he has revoked the certification of all Canadian-origin aircraft in the U.S. due to Canada not certifying jets belonging to the U.S.-based Gulfstream Aerospace company and has imposed a 50% customs duty.
President Trump reacted to Canada's refusal to certify Gulfstream 500, 600, 700, and 800 jets in a statement made on his social media account.
"WE CONSIDER ALL OF CANADA'S AIRCRAFT UNCERTIFIED" President Trump stated, "Based on the fact that Canada has unjustly, illegally, and resolutely refused to certify Gulfstream 500, 600, 700, and 800 jets, we consider Bombardier Global Expresses and all aircraft produced in Canada to be uncertified until Gulfstream is fully certified, as should have been done years ago. Gulfstream is a major U.S. company and should have been certified long ago."
Gulfstream 500 "I WILL IMPOSE A 50% CUSTOMS DUTY" Trump, who argued that Canada has effectively blocked the sale of Gulfstream products through its certification process, stated, "If this situation is not immediately corrected for any reason, I will impose a 50% customs duty on all aircraft sold from Canada to the U.S."
