During a statement made in the Oval Office, U.S. President Donald Trump jokingly told Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, "You're doing a terrible job." While it was noted that the statement was a joke, Trump later said he would keep Leavitt in her position. It is known that Trump, who has made similar jokes before, often praised Leavitt and referred to her as "a star."
U.S. President Donald Trump made headlines with his humorous remarks directed at White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during a statement in the Oval Office.
“MAYBE SHE'S DOING A BAD JOB”
While signing a decree and speaking to reporters, Trump noted that the vast majority of news about him in the media is negative, saying, “Maybe Karoline is doing a bad job, I don’t know… You’re doing a terrible job.”
“SHOULD WE KEEP HER?”
After his remarks, Trump turned to Leavitt with a smile and said, “Should we keep her? I think we will,” humorously concluding his statement. White House officials also confirmed that these remarks were made in jest.
HAS COME UP BEFORE
Trump had previously humorously questioned Leavitt's performance in front of the press but emphasized afterward that she would continue in her role.
“ONE OF THE BEST PRESS SECRETARIES”
Leavitt, whom Trump has occasionally praised, became the youngest press secretary in White House history when she took office in January 2025. Trump had previously referred to Leavitt as “a star, a wonderful person.”
WILL TAKE MATERNITY LEAVE
28-year-old Leavitt is expected to take maternity leave next month before the birth of her second child, which is due in May. Leavitt and her husband Nicholas Riccio have a son who was born in 2024.
